TUTORIAL PROGRESS REPORT

INTRODUCTION/TUTEE'S PROFILE

ROSEJHEAN A. MALINAO

She is currently a third-grade student at Libasan Elementary School. She is my sister's eight-year-old daughter, who happens to be my niece. My sister requested that I help her daughter out with some tutoring, and I was happy to take on the task given that it gave me a chance to practice and advance my teaching career.  We came to an agreement that I would meet with her daughter every Sunday for a one-hour tutorial session, and we have five sessions to achieve the learning goals.

PRE- ASSESSMENT

As for her academic background, I conducted a brief assessment for her in our first meeting for English and Mathematics subjects. In English, I confirmed her excellence in reading comprehension and other basic concepts. However, she was having a hard time grasping some of the basics of math. Her learning needs more polishing. That is why, even though I specialized in English, I had nothing to do but dwell on math with her.

FIRST TUTORIAL SESSION

We were able to organize our first tutorial session with my tutee on February 19, 2023. I gave her the assignment to memorize the numbers multiplied by 2 and 3, then go on to the next level the next day. I monitored her each day for that, even if it was just for a half-hour, to ensure that she was working on the task I assigned to her. With the teaching approach I used with her, I can say that every day has gotten better.

On the day of our tutorial session, we first worked on her modules. Then we proceed to the main point, which is mathematics. First, we polished her addition skills by allowing her to answer addition in many numbers and in big digits. We also focus on subtraction, which takes some practice to master. Lastly, in multiplication, which I am glad about as she can already answer it in fleet, but she cannot answer the multiplication that has two or more multipliers, which gives me a realization for another goal in our next session.

SECOND TUTORIAL SESSION

On February 26, 2023, the tutorial session we conducted with my tutee went well and was productive. In the same routine, we managed to finish all of her modules and were able to smoothly explain to her the lessons she had in her learning materials. Following that, I also taught her the checking procedure in addition, subtraction, and multiplication, as this is a crucial aspect of this lesson that I was unable to explain to her during our previous session.

The second tutorial I had with my niece took more than an hour, especially since she was having a hard time getting and learning the whole process of multiplication that has two or more multipliers. Thankfully, for the many hours we spent together, she was apparently able to learn the process, though she still sometimes forgets to place numbers in the second line in the addition part of the multiplication method. After all, I am still pleased with what we accomplished that day.

THIRD TUTORIAL SESSION

On March 5, 2023, with the same routine, we were able to take first place in answering all of her modules and summative tests. Working with it consumes our morning time, so I decided to put our tutorial session in the afternoon.

We started our session in good condition since I had first conditioned her by playing with her before going into our discussion. This is what I have been doing to her since the very beginning of all of our sessions, as part of my method of motivating her to be more active. This is the only time I am able to narrate this matter.

At first, we reviewed all of the concepts introduced to her from our last session, which is the checking process in those three operations, and most especially, I let her present orally the multiplication table since I had planned to teach her long division, which I see as being very helpful in the process. She had just started division in her modules, so that was my cue to also teach her the process and to advance to long division. True to my expectation, it was a great idea that she was good at multiplying since it can be connected to dividing, which made our session go well.

FOURTH TUTORIAL SESSION

On March 12, 2023, we conducted the tutorial session with my tutee, introducing the new topic about fractions that was introduced to her modules during that time, which again she struggled to understand, which is why I have persevered in teaching her this particular subject.

The way I managed to teach her the concept of how to identify fractions based on the given diagrams was through the integration of situational examples and through the real things in our surroundings, which was an effective way of teaching since she really learned from it.

At the end, I was able to assess her learning from all of the courses we had tackled, including the fractions. Though she was not able to perfect the test assessment, I could still see the difference in how she improved.

LAST/FINAL SESSION

The last session was on March 18th, 2023, which I decided to use to review and prepare for her final assessment test from all of the topics I have taught her. It was a long day, as we did not end for only three hours, but the good thing ended with a great result in her final exam.

Following that day, it was Sunday, March 20, 2023, which I designated as our recognition day as part of her completion. The day I created may not have been spectacular, but I was able to make it special and memorable for her. I gave her a small present, just enough to brighten her day. I also chose to present a medal as a prize. It was merely one of my medals from previous school achievements.
